Evolution or the question of the origin of life belongs to the most challenging research projects currently undertaken. One of the main topics in theoretical research is to develop an understanding of evolving systems from simple to complex life forms. A complex program (50000 lines of code, 400 subroutines) simulating such evolutionary systems has been parallelized for the multiprocessor KSR1 manufactured by Kendall Square Research. The parallelization allows for the creation of multiple threads per processor and thus particularly suits an XPRAM model of parallel computation.
